Combating Hair Breakage

Life happens and you forget to moisturize your hair! Oh No! There is hair breakage.

Then what!

For instance, I recently took out my weave (protective style), but unfortunately, I lacked proper maintenance of moisturizing my roots under the protective style and as a result while detangling there were shedding and lots of it! Even as I passed my hand through my hair there was shedding; I know I’m not the only one that HATES seeing bulks of hair in your comb or brush due to poor maintenance. The first thought that ran through my mind was “Why didn’t I go to the salon.” That way I wouldn’t have to see the clumps of hair and I leave feeling great!: I started feeling gloomy, but then I reminded myself that……

I started feeling gloomy, but then I reminded myself that……

HAIR GROWS BACK!

Regardless of how you may feel at the moment, there are ways to combat breakage!

BTW: This is not a one-time fix, it involves continuous care and maintenance. I’m doing it too so don’t get discouraged.

The Process

After removing my protective style and detangling, I then deep conditioned my hair with a mixture of Profective deep conditioner and hair strengthener, castor oil and coconut oil.

I swear by profective! I have had several occurrences of breakage and profective ALWAYS saves the day.

The mixture was left in my hair covered by a shower cap for 30 minutes. I usually would leave it for 1 hour, but I was really busy. You can leave it as long as you like, probably an hour or 2. After rinsing, I air dried then sat under a hair dryer for 5 minutes.

For those who hate sitting under a hair dryer like myself, NEVER EVER EVER blow dry already damaged hair, this will only make the problem worst

Hair Tip: Use an older T-shirt for drying hair instead of a towel. Towels tend to snag on hair causing further damage.

My scalp was then greased with Blue Magic Coconut oil hair conditioner (the one granny used) then styled in crochet braids. Before bed, I oiled my scalp with castor oil. Castor oil is very heavy, so don’t apply too much too often or you’ll just weigh down your hair. I oil every 3 to 4 days.  I left this style in for 3 weeks then styled my hair in a bun after treating and co-washing.

I’ll update you on my hair process on an upcoming blog.

Again, remember, Hair Grows back!
