Meeting with God

Meeting with God, in my opinion, is vital to anyone wanting to have a meaningful life. This is where we show him our heart’s desire and LISTEN to what he has to say regarding his plan for our lives.

Of course, you can meet with God as you are and talk and pray to him. He has no problem with it and you shouldn’t have any either. However, when we are prepared we learn and understand better.

“But when you pray, go into your private room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Matthew 6:6

  • Meeting with God is sacred. We meet in our quiet place without any interruptions or distractions. So when you’re meeting with him, find you a quiet spot. If the only place you can’t find is the bathroom, go in there, lock the door and pray. There’s no shame in this game. Another thing, refrain from meeting God on your bed at night, you’ll fall asleep unless you’re strong-willed against the comfort of a pillow.

  • Timing is EVERYTHING! This is where discipline comes into play. You can’t say you’ll meet God at 9 pm and show up at 10. It shows a lack of discipline and if you lack discipline in showing up how can you be rewarded. I meet with God at night because I love sleep too much to get up at 4 am.

  • You have to be present with him. Clear your mind of all negative thoughts and worry.  Ask him to remove all fears from your heart and lift any burdens you may have. That co-worker that pissed you off, tell him then he’ll clear your heart.

  • Then get out that music and worship him. There are many playlists on Youtube that you can choose from. My favorite worship artist is William McDowell, he always seems to get me in the mood.

  • Bible: I can be old fashion, but I prefer the physical book than a phone or tablet when reading because I feel less distracted and understand better. If you have to use your phone put it on airplane mode.

I could NOT deal with the shalls and thous of the King James Version so I purchased the Holman Christian Standard Bible for better understanding.  Plus, this bible contains study material and reference as well as a breakdown of every book. It’s also very easy to read, no shalls!

  • Pens or Markers: I’m in LOVE with these Sharpie pens for the variety of Colors! Also, the don’t bleed through the page. Win Win!

The LORD responded: “Write down this message! Record it legibly on tablets, so the one who announces it may read it easily.”

Habakkuk 2:2

  • Journal: When I pray I sometimes write down, just to look back at it and see how far I have gotten, what prayers were answered and those that have yet to be answered. Plus you remember more once it’s written.

  • Highlighter: Remember in school, you used a highlighter for the important things, well with the Bible you may want to highlight the whole book, but based on your circumstance some parts maybe more important than others.

As mentioned before, developing a relationship with God occurs over time.  Just as you build a normal friendship it’s the same with God. Just continue meeting with him and it’ll become easier.

Once you have these items checked you’re ready for Bible Study.

What time do you meet with God?
